Also known as M51, we earthlings see this galaxy as intertwined with its companion galaxy, the dwarf NGC5195, even though they are ~25 million light-years apart.

This is the third largest member of our ‘Local Group’ of galaxies and is estimated to contain around 40 billion stars... seems small when compared to 400 billion for the Milky Way and 1 trillion stars for the Andromeda Galaxy.
